Brown Shines With Dual-Threat Performance
Brown was the difference-maker from start to finish. The senior signal-caller threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns on 25-of-34 passing while adding 69 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. His early connection with Jordan Chambers-Smith for a 19-yard touchdown set the tone, and he later found Daveon Walker and Travaunta Abner for scores.
“I just wanted to keep the offense moving and protect the football,” Brown said after the game. “We knew Alcorn would battle, so execution was key.”
Alcorn State’s Ground Attack Keeps Game Close
Despite the loss, Alcorn State (0-2) showed flashes of offensive explosiveness. Running back Jacorian Sewell ripped off an electrifying 80-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and finished with 115 yards on 12 carries.
Teammate Reggie Davis added touchdown runs of 2 and 20 yards, while quarterback Jaylon Tolbert hit Jarvis Rush for an 18-yard touchdown that trimmed Alabama A&M’s lead to 35-31 with just over 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The Braves’ late surge kept fans on edge, but their comeback fell short when Tolbert’s fourth-down pass to Ja’Coby Matthews was broken up with under three minutes to play.
Edwards Seals the Win for the Bulldogs
Alabama A&M regained control in the final minutes, taking over deep in Alcorn territory. Running back Maurice Edwards capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge, sealing the Bulldogs’ first win of the season in front of 15,147 fans.
Edwards finished with 80 rushing yards, while Walker led all receivers with six catches for 78 yards.
