North Carolina Central Tops NC A&T 30-22 Behind Plez Lawrence’s Huge Rushing Performance
DURHAM, N.C. — North Carolina Central continued its strong start to the 2026 season with a 30-22 victory over rival North Carolina A&T on September 12 at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium.
The Eagles leaned heavily on their ground game, and running back Plez Lawrence delivered one of the biggest performances of the afternoon. Lawrence rushed for 210 yards on 22 carries and scored three touchdowns, providing the offensive spark NCCU needed to hold off a determined Aggies team.
North Carolina A&T found success through the air behind quarterback Kevin White, who completed 21 of 44 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns. However, his two interceptions proved costly as the Aggies attempted to overcome NCCU’s advantage on the ground.
Wide receiver Elijah Kennedy emerged as White’s top target, finishing with seven receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Kennedy consistently created problems for the NCCU secondary and helped keep A&T within striking distance throughout the game.
Despite the Aggies’ passing production, North Carolina Central was able to control critical stretches of the contest behind Lawrence’s rushing attack. His ability to break off productive runs and finish drives in the end zone allowed the Eagles to maintain pressure on A&T and protect their lead.
The Aggies continued battling late, but NCCU did enough on both sides of the football to secure the 30-22 final and another victory over its in-state rival.
For North Carolina Central, Lawrence’s 210-yard, three-touchdown performance served as the defining storyline of the game. For North Carolina A&T, the combination of White and Kennedy provided several explosive moments, but turnovers and NCCU’s effectiveness on the ground ultimately made the difference.
